CBT-E Treatment Programme

Enhanced cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-E) is the leading evidence-based treatment for adults with an eating disorder. This programme is a 20-week CBT-E focused binge eating treatment programme for people struggling with disordered eating, binge eating, or bulimia nervosa. You do not need a diagnosed eating problem to take part in this programme.

The treatment is a one-to-one virtual treatment that primarily focuses on what is keeping your eating disorder going. It is, therefore, mainly concerned with the present and the future. We will only address the origins of the problem as needed. The treatment will be tailored to your specific eating problem and your needs, we will need to become experts on your eating problem and what is keeping it going.

Treatment will involve 20 sessions over 20 weeks plus one initial session. The first eight sessions will be twice per week, the next ten will be weekly, and the last three will be at two-week internals. Each appointment will last just under 1 hour, with the exception of the initial assessment which will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Each session is devoted to a deep exploration of you, your habits, and the intentional process of changing those habits to improve your eating. We will work together, as a team, to help you overcome your eating problem. Throughout the 20 weeks check-ins will be made and take-home tasks will be given to support you on your recovery journey. Nutrition and eating behaviours will be a focal point of treatment. These tasks are very important and will need to be given priority. It is what you do between sessions that will determine, to an extent, how much you benefit from the programme.

You've likely been living with your eating problem for quite a while, it is really important that you make the most of this opportunity to change, otherwise, the problem is likely to persist. Treatment will be hard work, but it will be worth it. The more you put in, the more you will get out.

Places in the treatment programme are on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have further questions please book a free introduction call to discuss your care. If you think this treatment is right for you and would like to start immediately please book your initial consultation here.

What's involved?

............

The treatment is comprised of a series of stages, each stage builds upon the one previous.

.............

Stage One is an intensive initial stage and appointments are twice-weekly. Research shows that the magnitude of change in the first few weeks of treatment is a potent predictor of outcome.

..................

Stage two is a transitional stage where we take stock, review progress, identify emerging barriers and modify our formulation

...................

Stage four is the final stage of treatment and the focus shifts to the future. There are 2 aims; the first to ensure that the changes are maintained and the second to minimise the risk of relapse long-term

...............

Stage three is the main body of treatment and the aim is to address the main mechanisms that are maintaining your eating disorder.

....................

The post-treatment review session is designed to give you an opportunity to check-in and report on your progress over the previous 20 weeks.
